For Herndon Boy, Dieting is More Than A Fad

As a toddler, Jake was taking several medications to eliminate the seizures he was experiencing from his rare genetic condition, called glut1 deficiency, which caused him to have epilepsy. Andrea Gropman, MD, Center for Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine, was part of the team that helped to diagnose Jake when he first came to Children's National. Amy Kao, MD, Center for Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine, recommended he go on the ketogenic diet which has helped wean him off seizure medications and catch up on developmental milestones.
