The Volunteer Services Department manages Dr. Bear’s Closet, which is named after the Children’s National Hospital beloved mascot, Dr. Bear! Dr. Bear’s Closet includes donated toys, games, clothing and personal care items for patients and their families. Donating to Dr. Bear’s Closet is a great way to give back and make a lasting impact on a child’s visit to the hospital. You can donate toys and games directly to Dr. Bear’s Closet through our online wish list! Items will be directly shipped to the Volunteer Services office and utilized throughout the year.
Mailing Donations
Brand new items can be shipped/mailed directly to the Volunteer Services office at the address below. If mailing your donation, please also print and complete our In-Kind Donation Form (PDF) to include with your donation and ship to:

Dropping Off Donations
Brand new items purchased with recommendations from our Wish List can be dropped off via donation appointment.
Please complete our online Donor Interest Form for more information and guidance regarding scheduling a donation appointment at the hospital.
Please note that for infection control, safety and confidentiality reasons, donors are not able to visit with or distribute gifts directly to patients.

Making a monetary donation to Dr. Bear’s Closet allows us to purchase highly requested items for patients and families as well as the programs we support.
