Anna Carleen, M.D., is a first-year adolescent medicine fellow. She grew up in a diverse suburb of Princeton, New Jersey, and has a long-held desire to work with youth from various backgrounds. She went to medical school in Philadelphia where she did advocacy work with adults and families experiencing homelessness. Dr. Carleen did her residency in pediatrics in Cleveland, where she became interested in medical education and quality improvement. She is passionate about working with adolescents and being part of a community that supports teens in becoming healthy and well-adjusted adults.

Shane Henise serves as a patient navigator on the Gender Services team. Shane has been working with the transgender community for 10 years. Shane’s background is in both counseling and media work. He graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with his master of education in psychological counseling in 2017, specializing in care for the LGBTQ community. In his most recent position, he worked as a Campaigns Manager with GLAAD, developing social media campaigns aimed at raising awareness and acceptance for the trans community. Shane also has a love of research and has publications on transgender microaggressions. As a transgender man, Shane has not only helped others navigate the system professionally but brings a personal experience and knowledge as well.

Connie Trexler, RN, CPN, MSHS, serves as the program manager for Adolescent Clinical Research with a focus on HIV prevention, HIV treatment and transgender health. Her interests include adolescent sexual health, HIV prevention, and advocacy for inclusion of youth advisory boards into research and planning. She has worked extensively with the Adolescent Medicine HIV/AIDS Research Network (ATN) since 2001, serving as the Study Coordinator Chair from 2001 to 2006 and directing their Youth Advisory Board Program from 2006 to 2013. She has maintained certification in pediatric nursing for the past 25 years. Prior to moving into research, she worked as a nurse and clinical manager on the inpatient medical care unit at Children's National. She currently focuses her efforts on development of resources and support for implementation of research studies being conducted under the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine and being a resource for others conducting research.

She completed her masters degree and dietetic internship at Loma Linda University. Catherine is a former professor for Point Loma Nazarene University and is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
