Information collected by Children's National will vary depending on the user's interactions with Children's National Websites and Online Services.

General Use

To monitor site usage and improve its quality, we gather general information about the use of Children’s National Websites and Online Services. We use web server logs and industry-standard website statistics software, including Google Analytics, to count the number of users who visit our websites, go to each page, and to collect other general statistics. We do not track individual user's visits to our websites.

Children's National may share these anonymous aggregate statistics with other parties to provide general information about our services or arrange business relationships.

We do not share any information about individual users.

Information to Process Transactions

When you use our website to make appointments, register for (peer-to-peer) events, purchase products or services, or join groups, we only collect information necessary to process the transaction. This voluntarily provided information may include your name, address, telephone, and fax numbers, e-mail address, and credit card number or other payment information.

This information is encrypted to assure that your private information is transmitted in a secure fashion, but please understand that no one can guarantee that unlawful or inappropriate use by third parties will not happen. Please see "Use of Information" for details of how we use some of this information for other purposes.

Payment Information

If we collect information for payment purposes, it is stored and used by us or by others we contract with to process orders for that transaction only.

Use of Information

We will sometimes use your voluntarily submitted e-mail address, address, fax number or other information to confirm a transaction, verify your identity, send you general information such as newsletters, or for similar purposes, either directly or through others we contract with. In some cases, you will be given the choice not to have your information used for some of these purposes. In those cases, you will see information on how to make that choice.

We will not disclose any information to third parties for any other purpose, and we will not sell mailing lists.

Children’s National has established a written Identity Theft Prevention Program and has taken steps to train our staff on measures to protect patient accounts.

Activity Tracking

Some Children's National apps, such as the Race for Every Child mobile app, may access data from Apple Health, Android Health Connect, Garmin, Strava, and/or Fitbit to support fitness-related features. The data we receive is limited to fitness activity only—specifically, workout types and durations, steps, and distance. This information is used solely to credit users with activity rewards related to their participation in nonprofit fundraising campaigns.

We do not collect or share users' health record data of any kind. No personal health record information beyond the activity types stated above is accessed, stored or transmitted by Children's National.

Users retain full control over their connection to their preferred fitness tracker (Apple Health, Android Health Connect, Garmin, etc.) and may choose to connect or disconnect at any time through the Activity Tracking app settings.

If applicable, a Race for Every Child mobile app user may request to have their account and associated data, including activity tracking, removed by emailing [email protected].

Cookies

Some portions of our websites may use "cookies." Cookies are small data files that are sent by a website and stored on your computer. Cookies can contain information about your use of the site, but they are not used to identify or track you personally. We use cookies only when the software used with certain features of our websites or Internet services requires them in order to function properly. Most web browsers permit you to choose not to accept cookies automatically, but if you do not, some functions of our websites or services may not work properly.

Our website also uses Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting, which gives us insight into visitor information relating to age, gender and interests on an anonymous and aggregate level. Maryland Personal Data Protections

Maryland residents have certain rights regarding personal data collected by businesses. If you are a Maryland resident, you may exercise the following rights regarding your personal data subject to certain exceptions and limitations:

• The right to know whether Children’s National processes your personal data;
• The right to access the personal data retained by Children's National;
• The right to obtain a portable and readily useable copy of the personal data you have provided to Children’s National, to the extent feasible;
• The right to request that Children’s National correct inaccuracies in your personal data;
• The right to request that Children’s National delete your personal data;
• The right to request that Children's National provide categories of third parties that Children’s National discloses consumer data; and
• The right to withdraw consent for the use of your sensitive data.

Children’s National will respond within 45 days with a resolution or extension period of 45 days, if necessary. If your request is denied, you will have 45 days to appeal the denial. Upon receipt of your appeal, Children’s National will respond within 60 days. If you disagree with the appeal decision, you may contact Maryland’s Consumer Protection Division to submit a complaint. Children’s National will provide information once free of charge during any 12-month period. If, pursuant to MODPA, you make a request that is manifestly unfounded, excessive, technically infeasible, or repetitive, Children’s National may charge you a reasonable fee to cover the administrative costs or decline to act on the request.
