Biography
Courtney Long, MEd, CCC-SLP, CLC, NTMTC, is lead speech-language pathologist for inpatient services and a certified lactation counselor committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for pediatric patients and their families. She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgia Southern University and earned her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from North Carolina Central University.
Long has worked in diverse clinical settings, including rehabilitation centers, schools, private practices and hospitals. Her passion for medically complex feeding began in the school setting, inspiring her to pursue advanced expertise in pediatric swallowing and airway. While in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she launched an outpatient feeding program to serve infants and children in underserved communities. Drawn to the mission of Children’s National and her love for acute care, Long joined the hospital to provide specialized service delivery for pediatric patients with a focus on swallowing physiology and disorders, upper airway and voice conditions, motor speech and cognitive-linguistic impairments. She has advanced training and certification in flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES), neonatal touch and massage (NTMTC) and the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment protocol (LSVT).
Long plays an integral role on interdisciplinary teams, including Aerodigestive, Voice and Paradoxical Vocal Cord Mobility Clinic, and the Brain Tumor Institute. Long has presented nationally and internationally, engaged in research that advances evidence-based practice, and partnered with families to ensure the highest quality of patient care. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
