Lectures
Weekly
- Wednesday: 12 p.m. EEG Teaching with Neurology Residents
- Thursday:
- 8-9:30 a.m.: Epilepsy Surgery meeting. The fellow presents patients for presurgical evaluation and surgical cases.
- 2-3 p.m. EEG Rounds. Interesting and difficult EEGs are presented by the fellow and attendings; Surgical cases – stereoEEG, Grids are also discussed.
Monthly
Friday: 2 p.m. Discussion of Epilepsy Book Selected Chapters with inpatient EEG attending
- Current Practice of Clinical Electroencephalography. Ebersole, Husain, Nordli Fourth Edition
- Epileptic syndromes in infancy, childhood and adolescence. Bureau M, Genton P, Dravet C, Delgado-Escueta A, Tassinari CA, Wolf. 5th edition. Journal Club: 2 times a year (Integrated with the GW adult epilepsy journal club)
In service exam: The fellow will take the Epifite inservice examination conducted in March by the American Epilepsy Society.
Conferences
The fellow is encouraged to attend conferences during the training. This will include the George Washington University Epilepsy Board Review Course at the start of the year, The American Epilepsy Society Annual Meeting and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society Annual Meeting. Specific meetings based on the fellow’s interest will be considered.
Quality Improvement Project
The fellow with the guidance of a faculty member will come up with one hospital led quality improvement (QI) project during the year.
Duty/Call Schedule
The fellow will do one weekend call per month starting in September of the year of training and will do Mondays and Thursday weekday call every 2 weeks. The fellow will be on first call for remote EEG review. After the weekend call, the fellow will have a post call day. The neurophysiology attending on service and on call will be responsible to oversee the epilepsy fellow’s duty.
Salary and Stipend
The fellow’s salary will be based on the fellow’s PGY level. The fellow has a stipend of $1,500 per year to be used for conferences.
