Our Faculty Leaders

Mark Batshaw, MD, Annie Inge, PhD, and Gaetano Lotrecchiano, EdD, PhD, bring expertise in neurodevelopmental pediatrics, autism and leadership to guide the LEND program at Children’s National, creating unique experiences for trainees, including CARS-2 workshops, direct clinical observation and leadership-focused sessions throughout the curriculum. The team provides ongoing support and maintains communication with trainees during and after the program, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging training experience.

Mark L. Batshaw, MD

Mark L. Batshaw, MD, is a developmental pediatrician and senior investigator in the Center for Genetic Medicine Research at Children’s National Hospital. Dr. Batshaw has spent his entire career caring for children with developmental disabilities. He has published more than 200 articles and reviews and is senior editor of the classic textbook, “Children with Disabilities,” now entering its eighth edition. Dr. Batshaw’s research has focused on inborn errors of urea synthesis, in which he is considered an international authority, and he has been continuously funded as an National Institutes of Health principal investigator for over 40 years.

 

Anne P. Inge, PhD

Anne P. Inge, PhD, directs the autism program at Children's National and is an associate professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is a psychologist specializing in diagnostic evaluation and neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Inge has extensive experience working with children with ASD at all ages and levels of functioning. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Miami and pursued research with children and adolescents with ASD. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, during which she specialized in the early detection of ASD in high-risk infant sibling cohorts. Her research has focused on examining individual differences in child characteristics associated with motivational bias and their relations to comorbidity (e.g., anxiety, depression) and timing of diagnosis and outcomes (i.e., cognitive/language, social-emotional, attention/behavioral regulation) in children with ASD.

Gaetano Lotrecchiano, EdD, PhD

Gaetano Lotrecchiano, EdD, PhD, is an associate professor of Clinical Research and Leadership and of Pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences and his specialty is in team science and the development of teams in science and healthcare. Dr. Lotrecchiano is an award-winning teacher, mentor and thought leader in instructional andragogy. His research focuses on motivation in teams and collaboration readiness, and he is the principal editor of “Communication in Transdisciplinary Teams," Informing Science Press.

Faculty in the LEND Program

Our faculty serve as direct mentors to trainees and bring expertise from a wide range of institutions, backgrounds and disciplines. Fellowship at Children’s National has a long-standing history of providing interdisciplinary clinical services to children and families with developmental disabilities (DD), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Faculty also offer expertise in policy and advocacy through our CHAI Government Affairs team, which works at local, state and federal levels to address health disparities and advance the interests of children’s health. In addition, our faculty are committed to both training and research and are leaders in many areas related to DD and ASD, helping to shape the next generation of professionals in the field.
