At Children’s National Hospital, we are dedicated to improving your child’s quality of life following a blood and marrow transplant (BMT). Our BMT Long-Term Follow-up Program is designed to provide ongoing care and support for allogeneic transplant patients – whether their treatment was for cancersickle cell disease or a non-cancerous immunodeficiency.

Contact Information

For more information or to schedule an appointment with the BMT Long-term Follow-up Program, please call us at 202-476-3008.

One year after your child’s BMT, they will begin follow-up care through our program and continue with annual checkups as often as needed. These visits include a comprehensive review of your child’s overall health and  assess the status of the condition for which they received the transplant.

We also evaluate how well the new immune system is functioning and recommend appropriate strategies to help prevent infections. Our experienced team closely monitors for any complications related to the transplant and work together to manage both short and long-term side effects. Early intervention by our highly trained team can help reduce the risk of complications.

A Multidisciplinary Team Dedicated to Your Child’s Care

In the months following your child’s transplant, they will receive care in the post-transplant clinic from our experienced transplant team. Once your child reaches the one year post-transplant milestone, they will begin being annual visits by our multidisciplinary team in the BMT Long-Term Follow-up Program.

Your child may be seen by specialists from a variety of fields to address any health concerns that may arise following transplant. These may include:
