The Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Training Program at Children’s National offers a comprehensive and integrated educational curriculum that supports clinical excellence, leadership development and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Integrated clinical education: Fellows in the four‑year NDD Fellowship participate in selected educational conferences and didactic activities alongside the Child Neurology Residency during relevant stages of training. This shared educational environment provides a strong foundation in pediatric neurology, case‑based learning, and exposure to a wide range of neurologic and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Institution-wide fellowship education: All fellows participate in institution‑wide educational programming designed to support core competencies for subspecialty practice, including professionalism, leadership, teaching skills, quality improvement, research and scholarship, advocacy, health equity, well‑being and career development. These offerings complement fellows’ clinical training and are tailored to support trainees across different stages of fellowship.
  • Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND): Fellows also participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program at Children’s National, an interdisciplinary training program focused on leadership, advocacy, and system-level approaches to caring for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Through LEND, fellows engage in didactic sessions and interdisciplinary learning experiences that emphasize family‑centered care, community engagement, and policy‑informed practice. LEND participation enhances fellows’ understanding of developmental disabilities across the lifespan and strengthens skills in interdisciplinary collaboration and leadership.
  • Division-based neurodevelopmental education: In addition to neurology‑ and institution‑wide programming, fellows participate in regular educational sessions within the Division of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics and Neurogenetics. These include case conferences, interdisciplinary discussions and focused teaching on neurodevelopmental evaluation, diagnosis and longitudinal care. Sessions emphasize collaborative learning across disciplines and progressive clinical reasoning in complex neurodevelopmental conditions.

Across all pathways, the curriculum is designed to prepare fellows for independent subspecialty practice in neurodevelopmental disabilities while fostering skills in leadership, scholarship, advocacy and interdisciplinary care.
