<p>The conference will bring together a diverse group of experts representing multiple disciplines and sectors&nbsp;to improve the state&nbsp;of pediatric surgical and device innovation and the&nbsp;regulatory clearance and approval process leading&nbsp;to commercialization.</p>

The Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation's goal is as simple as it is ambitious: to save and improve children’s lives, today and in the future. 

The Institute will be hosting a conference on Oct. 24, 2014 in Washington, DC, at the Newseum. The conference theme is: "Lessons from Drugs to Devices: A Pediatric Perspective." The conference will bring together a diverse group of experts representing multiple disciplines and sectors to improve the state of pediatric surgical and device innovation and the regulatory clearance and approval process leading to commercialization.

The objectives of the conference are:
  • To forge consensus on critical issues germane to pediatric surgical innovation
  • To identify concrete, achievable action items and assigning them to relevant parties
  • To establish a set of scientific, clinical, regulatory, and policy recommendations required to advance the field
  • To agree upon a select and targeted publication, presentation, legislative, regulatory, appropriate media strategy and targeted outreach campaign to forward conference objectives.

Speakers include Children's National President and CEO Kurt Newman, MD; Mark Batshaw, MD, Chief Academic Office & Physician-in-Chief at Children's National; Charles Berul, MD, Chief of Cardiology at Children's National; Anthony Sandler, MD, Senior Vice President of the Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care at Children's National, the Diane and Norman Bernstein Professor in Pediatric Surgery and a principal investigator in the Immunology Initiative of the Sheikh Zayed Institute; and Peter Kim, MD, CM, PhD, Vice President of the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation and Associate Surgeon-in-Chief of the Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care at Children’s National.
