Pediatric Cardiac Imaging

Children's National Hospital is a national leader in congenital heart disease imaging. The pediatric echocardiography laboratory is one of the busiest in the United States, performing approximately 14,000 studies annually.

Routine Transthoracic Echocardiography

Echocardiography is utilized to diagnose cardiac problems, as well as guide heart surgery and complex cardiac catheterizations. Children's National developed one of the first digital echocardiography laboratories in the world and remains a leader in the development of new technologies to optimize patient care. Our digital echocardiography laboratory makes it seamless for physicians throughout the region, country and world to instantly send Children's National cardiologists echocardiograms for review 24/7 at any location.

Advanced Echocardiography

State-of-the-art technology, such as Echocardiogram transesophageal, fetal, three-dimensional, intracardiac, and stress echocardiography, as well as vascular ultrasound, is readily available. The Children's National echocardiography laboratory also is a leader in the development of new technology and works closely with all major echocardiography vendors to develop and test new technology.

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Cardiac MRI is one of the fastest growing diagnostic tools in pediatric cardiology. Children's National uses this technology to produce exquisite images of the inside and outside of the heart, allowing many patients to avoid more invasive procedures, and without radiation exposure.
