Specialty Infusions

The Children’s National Specialty Infusions team provides expert, compassionate care for children – from newborns to young adults – who need advanced infusion therapies. Infusion therapy delivers medicine directly into a child’s bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) tube, helping treat both short-term and chronic (ongoing) conditions.
Conveniently located at Children’s National, our clinic includes 12 private infusion rooms designed to create a safe, comfortable and family-centered environment for every child.
Appointments by Referral
A Children’s National provider will refer patients directly to Specialty Infusions.

Why Families Choose Children’s National for Specialty Infusions
At Specialty Infusions, we work closely with your child’s care team to ensure every treatment is safe, appropriate and tailored to your child’s diagnosis.
Highlights of our program include:
- Advanced pediatric infusion therapies: Depending on the child’s needs, we offer access to specialized treatments, including:
- Gene therapies, such as Elevidys (for Duchenne muscular dystrophy) and Zolgensma (for spinal muscular atrophy)
- Brineura® (for neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2 (CLN2 disease))
- Tzield® (to help delay the onset of Stage 2 and Stage 3 type 1 diabetes; speak with your endocrinologist to determine your child’s eligibility)
- Endocrinology testing: We provide growth hormone stimulation testing with a referral from a Children’s National endocrinologist.
- Child-friendly infusion process: A certified child life specialist is available to help your child understand what to expect during an infusion and to help with their comfort during infusion appointments. If you wish to speak with a child life specialist before your child’s infusion appointment, please call 202-476-5497.
- Continuity of care: Many children receive ongoing infusions with us throughout their treatment. We pride ourselves on the relationships we create with our patients, and the professional, connected environment that we foster.
