Research
During the Allergy/Immunology Fellowship, each fellow must complete a scholarly project. Many opportunities are available to help fellows meet this requirement. The faculty of the Division of Allergy and Immunology participate in multiple internally and externally funded research projects and collaborations available through the Children’s National Research Institute and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The allergy division has a dedicated research team (nursing and research assistant colleagues) who can support research interests and projects.
Fellows will have exposure to faculty mentors and their research interests at the start of their fellowship. Fellows will start to pursue their research project within the first few months of their fellowship, with a research mentor assigned to support their research endeavors and interests as well as ensure the project will meet the requirements for board certification. Fellows will be encouraged to present their research at local and national meetings as well as publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Additional components of the allergy/immunology research training include:
- Core curriculum in research/statistical concepts and biostatistical support
- Departmental QI project
- Evidence-based medicine/journal clubs
