Behavioral Headache Program Externship

This position includes one day working within the interdisciplinary chronic headache team in the evaluation/diagnostic program along with neurologists, neurology fellows and nurse practitioners. The second day will focus on developing and executing pain-focused cognitive behavioral treatment to patients their families.

Theoretical orientations utilized within this clinic include an integrative rehabilitative approach involving pain-focused cognitive and behavioral skills, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other mindfulness approaches necessary to restore functioning and prevent disability associated with chronic headache conditions.

Applicants must be in at least the third year of a doctoral program with experience in child and adolescent therapy and documented interest in gaining advanced experience in a medical/pediatric setting.

One to two externs will be recruited for this externship.

Externships are one year and will occur from summer 2023 – spring/summer 2024. Ideally this is a two-day externship (16 hours/week) and is tentatively dedicated to Wednesdays and Thursdays at the main hospital in Washington, D.C., and/or the Northern Virginia location in Fairfax, VA.
