Early Childhood Behavioral Health

Externs will have opportunities to conduct initial intake evaluations and facilitate ongoing therapy/treatment. The extern can gain exposure to Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). The extern may also gain exposure to Applied Behavior Analysis-informed treatment, treatment for early childhood anxiety disorders, group-based interventions (social communication and executive functioning therapy for young children, parent behavior management, groups for families with children recently diagnosed with autism), and/or assessment (testing). In addition to formal in-person supervision, opportunities for didactics include case conferences with child psychiatrists and clinical social workers, psychiatry grand rounds and clinical seminars. Note that this externship may pair well with another 1-day per week externship placement.

Applicants must be in at least the third year of a doctoral program at the time of application, have completed formal coursework in child development and treatment, and have had prior externship experience with child and adolescent therapy. Preference will be given to advanced doctoral students.

One extern will be recruited for this externship.

Eight hours per week (one full day). The Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program will likely be held on Thursdays with the potential for Tuesday availability. It is anticipated that this will be a one-year externship from July 2024 to June 2025.
