Children’s National Oral Surgery Care: What to Expect
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a specialized surgical field that treats facial trauma, jaw deformities and tumors, cysts or infections in the mouth and jaw. Our pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgical team treats complex diagnoses and performs procedures to help restore the oral health of children in our care.
At your child’s first visit, our team’s evaluation will include a review of your child’s medical history, a physical examination and diagnostic imaging. Our team will then come up with a treatment plan that will meet your child’s and your family’s needs. The first visit usually lasts about one hour.
Depending on the treatment plan, you may receive instructions on how to prepare your child for surgery in our operating room. Some of our patients undergo outpatient procedures that they go home from the same day. We will ensure that you have all the information you need ahead of their surgery or procedure, as well as how to care for them and manage their pain while they recover.

The scope of our work includes:
- Tooth extractions
