The Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) team at Children’s National is always working to develop the most effective treatments for every child. One way we determine the best treatments for our patients is by measuring survival rates.

Understanding BMT Survival Rate Outcomes

The chart below shows that survival rates for patients in the Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program at Children's National have met or exceeded the rates of similar patients treated at other pediatric transplant centers across the United States.

Since 2010, the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research® (CIBMTR) has analyzed the survival rates of allogeneic transplants at participating centers and compared those results to national benchmarks. Allogeneic transplants use cells from a matched or partially matched donor (either related or unrelated).

Please note:

  • Survival rates represent the percentage of patients who survive 1 year after their transplant.
    • To allow time to track patient outcomes, each year shown reflects 3 years of combined data.
