Research Study: Orthodontic Dental Device for Sleep Apnic Children

The main goal of this study is to find out if a removable dental device can help treat obstructive sleep apnea in children and teens ages 9 to 16. Right now, these types of devices are approved for adults but not for kids under 18. Since similar devices work well for adults with mild to moderate sleep apnea, researchers want to see if they can be just as helpful for younger patients. The study is testing whether moving the lower jaw forward with this device can make breathing easier during sleep and reduce sleep apnea symptoms in children.

Children ages 9 to 16 who have obstructive sleep apnea and haven’t had success with common treatments—like removing tonsils and adenoids or using a CPAP machine—or for whom those options aren’t suitable.

Participants will receive a $75 reimbursement and parking for each clinic. The results of this study may provide information that could help create individualized treatment and support for children and young adults in the future.
