Children’s National Hospital is a quaternary care free standing children’s hospital serving Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, Maryland, areas of West Virginia and many international patients. We serve a large, extremely diverse population and have significant community engagement through which to teach our trainees and contribute to child health.
Through advanced clinical exposure, networking, mentoring and special sessions, participants are armed with the resources and information needed to confidently make decisions regarding their future training and to better serve children.
Why Advancing Academic Pediatrics?
Advancing Academic Pediatrics is not simply a visiting clerkship; it is a unique academic experience designed to bring together the next generation of pediatric leaders in community and academic pediatrics. Participants engage in immersive clinical training as well as intentional career mentorship, and exposure to the work that advances child health outcomes in Washington, D.C.
Grounded in Children's National's vision of improving the health and well-being of all children, Advancing Academic Pediatrics is uniquely situated in Washington, D.C., where clinical excellence and academia intersect with advocacy, policy, and community partnership.
We seek students who have experience in leadership, service, advocacy or community engagement, and who are committed to careers that advance health outcomes for all children through academic pediatrics. Advancing Academic Pediatrics is designed for those who aim to both care for children and to shape the systems that determine their health.
