PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency has been an ASHP-accredited residency program since 1980. The goal of the program is to increase the availability of clinical pharmacists with diverse and well-rounded experience in pediatric pharmacy practice. The program is the only PGY1 Pharmacy Residency with a pediatric emphasis in the Washington metropolitan area.
The purpose of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Children’s National is to provide learning experiences centered on patient care and practice management that will enable residency graduates to pursue centralized or decentralized clinical pharmacist positions in pediatrics after completion of the program. The program will also prepare the graduates to pursue both board certification (e.g. BCPS or BCPPS) and/or a postgraduate year two (PGY2) residency program. The residency program will also provide teaching opportunities and a required teaching certificate that will also develop pedagogical skills in the context of adjunct faculty appointment with affiliated pharmacy schools.
