Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Frequently Asked Questions
What is the application due date?
December 1, 2025
Does the program participate in the National Matching Service Match?
Yes. Children’s National Hospital is a member of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN) and participates in the APPCN Resident Matching Program (the “Match”) administered by the National Matching Service (NMS). All applicants must register with the National Matching Service prior to the published NMS deadline. Our program code is 8803. This residency site agrees to abide by the APPCN policy that no person at this facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any residency applicant.
Can I apply if my graduate program and/or internship is not APA/CPA-accredited?
Yes, although this may make your application significantly less competitive. If possible, include additional information in your application. For example, if your graduate program or internship is in the process of applying for accreditation, include a letter from your training director that explains this. We are looking for the best overall "fit" to our program, but in general, an APA/CPA-approved graduate program is required and an APA-/CPA-approved internship is strongly preferred.
What prior experience is required?
The requirements for your application to be competitive:
- A doctoral degree from an APA/CPA-accredited doctoral program, in a relevant area of psychology, usually clinical psychology
- Graduate coursework and/or didactics in neuropsychology
- Externship experiences with children and adolescents and two or more externships in clinical neuropsychology
- An APA- or CPA-approved predoctoral internship
How long is the program/length of training?
This is a two-year, full-time training position.
Is this a research or a clinical position?
This is primarily a clinical training position. Following the scientist-practitioner model, however, our fellows are actively involved in ongoing clinical research as well, and have 20-30 percent of their time protected for this.
Are there pre-employment requirements?
All requirements of your doctoral degree (including dissertation defense) must be complete prior to the start date. All occupational health requirements and pre-employment requirements must be satisfied ahead of the start date. The District of Columbia Municipal Regulation Title 22 requires new employees/trainees to have a physical health screen. Children’s National requires proof of immunity for tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and annual flu vaccination. All incoming employees must complete the required labs and urine drug screening. A background check is also required.
What is the start date?
The start date for the clinical training position is Sept. 1
