Safe Kids Worldwide was founded in 1988 by former Children’s National pediatric trauma surgeon Martin R. Eichelberger, M.D., and Herta Feely, to reduce injuries from:

  • Motor vehicles
  • Sports
  • Drowning
  • Falls
  • Burns
  • Poisonings

"Children and families are at the core of what we do and Safe Kids continues to lead the way with an innovative and imaginative approach. Their work is changing the country and the world in terms of how children are cared for and kept safe," says Kurt Newman, M.D., former president and CEO, Children's National.

Since 1988, there has been a 60 percent decrease in the unintentional injury rate among children 19 years and younger. Through global education, research, media, community outreach and public policy efforts, Safe Kids reaches millions of children and their families with proven, practical and lifesaving interventions.
