Dorothy Bulas, M.D., named chief of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology

Radiologist also recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Educator

WASHINGTON —  Following an extensive national search, the Center for Hospital Based Specialties at Children’s National Health System is pleased to announce that Dorothy Bulas, M.D., has been appointed chief of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology.

Dr. Bulas has been a capable leader in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology for 28 years and has been a professor of Radiology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University Medical Center since 2000. At Children’s National, Dr. Bulas has recently served as vice chief of academic affairs, program director of pediatric radiology and section head of ultrasound and fetal imaging. 

Recognized as an advocate for improving pediatric radiology worldwide, Dr. Bulas is also the 2017 Radiological Society of North America Outstanding Educator. This distinguished award was given to Dr. Bulas in acknowledgement of her expertise in radiologic teaching and her commitment and passion for educating the next generation of radiologists. 

Dr. Bulas’ experience includes a long list of roles and accomplishments in the rapidly evolving field of pediatric radiology. She currently serves as chair of the international outreach committee of the American College of Radiology Foundation and was a founding member of the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging

Her clinical and research interests include prenatal sonographic and MRI evaluation of congenital anomalies, Transcranial Doppler (TCD) evaluation of neonatal and pediatric cerebrovascular injury, and blunt abdominal trauma. 

After graduating cum laude from Lehigh University, Dr. Bulas earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She completed a pediatric residency at New York Hospital, radiology residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and a fellowship at Children’s National.
