Pediatric Total Proctocolectomy with J-Pouch Reconstruction
What You Need to Know
- A proctocolectomy surgery removes the colon and rectum and is known as a total proctocolectomy with J-pouch reconstruction.
- Before surgery, we will follow ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) protocols to improve your child’s recovery and reduce their length of stay in the hospital.
- After surgery, expect to stay in the hospital for three to five days after surgery.
- No strenuous activity, contact sports, gym class and no heavy lifting for two to four weeks after surgery.
