How do I make an appointment with the Sickle Cell Integrative Health Program?

How old does my child have to be to attend the Sickle Cell Integrative Health Program?
Due to the interactive nature of the sessions, we generally recommend this clinic for children ages 8 and older.
How long are appointments?
Appointments typically last 1.5–2 hours, as patients see multiple providers and receive a variety of services.
Will my child need to continue taking other sickle cell disease medications, such as hydroxyurea?
Yes. The therapies provided through this clinic are designed to help manage symptoms that you or your child may be experiencing. You should continue taking all prescribed medications. No medications should be stopped unless directed by your primary hematologist.
Will my child need to continue taking pain medication?
Yes. Your child should continue taking any pain medications prescribed by your hematologist. The tools and therapies offered through the Sickle Cell Integrative Health Program may help improve comfort and coping skills, but pain medications will continue to be managed by your primary hematologist.
Does my child still need to see their primary hematologist while attending the Sickle Cell Integrative Health Program?
Yes. We strongly recommend that your child continue attending all appointments with your primary hematologist. The Sickle Cell Integrative Health Program is intended to complement, not replace, your regular hematology care. All providers involved in your care will communicate with your primary hematologist about the services and treatments received through the clinic.
