Rehabilitation & Specialized Care Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play an important role at Rehabilitation & Specialized Care in helping our patients prepare to return to their homes, schools and communities.

We are committed to matching your skills and interests with a variety of opportunities available. We offer opportunities with patient care or administrative or clerical work. We also encourage groups to sponsor an event or activity for our children and their families.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers will help children and young adults participate in athletic, social and creative activities by supporting the Kids in Action team at events. Events take place at Children’s National Bunker Hill Road (D.C.) and throughout the community (DMV).
Must be at least 16 years of age and older
Must have reliable transportation
Events will be held on weeknight evenings and weekends
Volunteer recruitment for Kids in Action takes place 2–3 times per year.

About Children's National Rehabilitation & Specialized Care (formerly The HSC Pediatric Center)

We are a children's specialty program in Washington, D.C., that services children from infancy through age 21. We provide easy access to a range of family-centered medical and therapy services to meet your child’s needs. We also provide care for children who are leaving a traditional hospital and aren’t quite ready to be cared for at home.

Volunteering with Children’s National Rehabilitation & Specialized Care

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
Volunteers are assigned to a unit and report directly to the Child Life Specialists.
Duties might include:
- Visiting with patients and engaging in play activities at bedside
- Escorting patients to events
- Cleaning and organizing playroom toys
