Specialty Pharmacy: Provider Resources

We accept many commercial, Medicaid and government-sponsored insurance plans. Because coverage and network participation vary by plan and medication, our team will verify benefits and work with patients and providers to facilitate access to therapy.

We provide access to medications commonly prescribed for pediatric patients with chronic and complex health conditions. Our pharmacists work collaboratively with providers and families to support medication access, insurance navigation, patient education and ongoing therapy management. If we can’t dispense a particular medication, we help coordinate care with the appropriate pharmacy to ensure patients receive their therapy as quickly as possible.

Referrals are usually processed within 24-48 hours. Our team reviews referrals promptly upon receipt and works proactively with providers, patients and payers to facilitate timely medication access. Processing times may vary based on insurance requirements, prior authorization needs and clinical documentation requirements. Patients and providers are kept informed throughout the process. 

Children's National Specialty Pharmacy works closely with prescribing providers to ensure timely communication regarding patient care. Clinical issues are communicated through established provider-preferred channels, including telephone, fax, secure electronic messaging or direct coordination with the patient's care team. Our goal is to keep providers informed, support continuity of care and help patients remain on therapy with minimal disruption.
