At present, there is no medicine or procedure that can undo liver damage due to fatty liver disease. The treatment is weight loss, which has been proven to help stop further damage to the liver and lower your child’s risk of cirrhosis (scarring in the liver), transplant or liver cancer.
We understand that it can be tough to switch out unhealthy habits with healthy ones, but the effort is worth it. Coordinated teamwork involving your child, your family and your pediatrician offers the best chance to beat fatty liver disease and its complications.
Treatment for Fatty Liver Disease: What to Expect
Your child’s first appointment will last two to three hours and will include:
History and Physical
Individualized Counseling
Other Health Issues
Referrals
Additional Tests
Ongoing Care
You and your child will then return regularly to gauge progress. These visits may include bloodwork or imaging tests. Your child must be present for every clinic visit regardless of age. We share updates with your child’s pediatrician, who stays at the head of the team.
We are always here to answer questions and help with any challenges you encounter. Your child and your family will have our support and continued care for as long as it’s needed.
