Bone Marrow Failure Program

Bone marrow failure describes a group of blood disorders that share a common experience: There is a decrease or an ineffective blood cell production in a person's bone marrow. These disorders may develop before a baby is born (a trait inherited from their parents) or can develop after a baby is born. Some of the complications that children with bone marrow failure disorder may experience include blood transfusions, infection, bleeding or bruising and in some cases, cancer (malignancy).
Children's National Bone Marrow Failure Program cares for infants, children and young adults with these disorders, offering treatments tailored to each child's case. Our team coordinates your child's care with your family and other expert teams at Children's National to provide your child with the best care possible.
