Families who are navigating teen substance use disorders face a unique set of challenges as they care for their child. The mission of the Addictions Program at Children’s National Hospital is to offer families the resources and tools you need to foster a safe, understanding and supportive environment for your teen. Together, we hope to effectively intervene and treat substance use disorders, mapping a healthy path forward that will make a difference for your child.

A Note About Your Teen's Mental Health

While parents and caregivers explore various resources and treatment options for their teen with substance use issues, they should also consider their teen’s mental health. Half of adolescents with substance use disorders also have a diagnosable co-occurring mental health condition.

Considering having your teen evaluated for mental health treatment alongside their substance use treatment can go a long way to their recovery. To request a new patient mental health visit, call 202-729-3300 and complete a psychiatry new patient intake packet.
