Nephrology Fellowship

The Division of Nephrology at Children’s National Hospital offers a comprehensive three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program. As a nationally-recognized program for more than 30 years, we provide fellows with a unique experience that combines excellence in clinical training and world-class research opportunities. Our mission is to produce well-trained pediatric nephrologists who excel in every aspect of care for children and adolescents with kidney disorders.

Our fellowship provides comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical nephrology and the provision of acute and chronic renal replacement therapy. This includes acute and chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD), acute and chronic hemodialysis (HD), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), intensive care nephrology and renal transplantation.

As a fellow, you also will participate in scholarly research activities available within the Division of Nephrology, the Children’s National Research Institute, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the George Washington University Schools of Medicine & Health Sciences and Public Health. In addition, didactic lectures on end-stage renal disease and transplantation, small group discussions and opportunities to teach faculty/medical students are a core part of the program’s curriculum.

How to Apply

We accept applications (including from high-quality international medical graduates ) through ERAS and participate in the NRMP for selection. Applicants should ideally have complete an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program to be considered for fellowship position. We accept U.S. citizens, green cards and some visas. Applicants need to be able to get a District of Columbia medical license. We usually also require three letters of recommendations as part of the application.

We interview only on Thursdays in the fall (late August to mid-November). 1-2 candidates are interviewed on the same day. When your completed application has been received and reviewed, you will be notified if you will be offered an interview opportunity. We encourage applicants to apply earlier in the application process to ensure flexibility with interview scheduling.

Please note: At this time, we are only offering virtual interviews.
