The following volumes and outcomes data provides a snapshot of the quality care you can expect from the various programs within our Children’s National Heart Center:

Quality Family-Centered Care

We are dedicated to providing the best possible care to children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Our large, experienced team provides high-quality, personalized care to a large volume of patients each year.

Advanced Cardiac Therapies and Heart Transplant Program

We provide personalized care for babies and children with heart failure, including advanced VAD techniques and heart transplantation.

Cardiac Anesthesiology

Children’s National Hospital is one of only a few programs in the country with a specialized team of pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists. Each member of our team is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty training and certification in pediatric cardiac anesthesia.

Cardiac Catheterization

The cardiac catheterization team at Children’s National Hospital performs over 600 procedures each year, including electrophysiology, diagnostic and interventional procedures. This high volume translates to a superior level of expertise for pediatric cardiac patients.

Cardiac Imaging

We have expertise in the full spectrum of cardiac imaging, including transesophageal, prenatal, 3-D, intracardiac, and stress echocardiography and cardiac MRI.

Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

Children’s National Hospital is the region’s leading provider of critical care for seriously ill and injured infants and children. We offer the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and specialized Cardiac ICU (CICU) in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Program

Our cardiac neurodevelopmental program, the only one of its kind in the region, monitors cognitive development in babies born with congenital heart disease.

Cardiac Surgery

Pediatric heart surgeons at Children’s National Hospital perform a high volume of lifesaving surgeries ranging from the most complex congenital problems to the more common issues, all with children’s neurodevelopment in mind.

Heart and Kidney Unit

The Heart and Kidney Unit is where we treat children with heart conditions that are not considered critical. It is also the step-down unit for patients who have previously been in the cardiac ICU and still need some care in preparation for going home. Staff in this high-volume unit are specially trained and experienced in treating all types of congenital heart disease.

Prenatal Cardiology Program
