Free training for healthcare providers — be they Children’s National employees or other providers in the greater D.C. community — interested in improving their skills in the area of pediatric emergency medicine is available from the Children’s National Emergency Medical Services for Children Program and our partners.

Training events happen periodically at Children’s. In addition, healthcare providers can request our team or our partners visit their location to provide training.

Some of the topics that we cover include:

  • Pediatric trauma brain injury and concussions
  • Triage and hospital handoff following a mass casualty incident (MCI)
  • Providing emergency care to children with disabilities
  • Blast injuries and burns

Skills stations we cover in our courses include:

  • Stop the Bleed (presented by Cindy Colson). This one-hour course provides information and hands-on training to teach anyone how to control life-threatening bleeding.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation. This one-hour course provides information and hands-on training on how to perform neonatal resuscitation for our youngest patients.
  • Advanced Airway. This one-hour course provides information and hands-on training on how to manage breathing/airway in a pediatric trauma patient.
  • Trauma Core. This all-day course for Children’s staff teaches the CORE elements of the Trauma and Burn services at Children’s.

To request information about these events or how to receive training, email us.
