Hiring Process

Seven-Step Process

Step One

Profile and Application

First, search for jobs that you find of interest. Then, click “apply for this job online,” and you will be prompted to create an online profile, including an opportunity to upload your resume and any other appropriate documents (i.e., cover letter, letters of recommendation, certifications or transcripts), complete a Talent Plus assessment and employment application.

Step Two

Selection Process

Your profile will be reviewed by our Talent Acquisition team. If your qualifications match the position, a recruiter or hiring manager will contact you by phone or email. If not selected, your resume will remain in our database for future opportunities. You can check application status or update your resume anytime by logging into your account. If you forget your password, use the recovery prompts on the login page.

Step Three

The Interview

You may be asked to complete a brief phone screening with our Talent Acquisition team to review your qualifications. After the screening, your application is sent to the hiring manager. If they feel you’re a good fit, you may be invited to an in‑person or virtual interview. In‑person interviews will come with a meeting invite including the location. Virtual interviews will include dial‑in details from the recruiter or Talent Acquisition team.

Step Four

The Offer

Offers are made verbally then sent via email. All employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of the pre-employment background check, drug screening and all Occupational Health screenings.

Step Five

Background Check

Once you have accepted the offer of employment, you will receive an email from our external background check vendor, Sterling Talent Solutions. This will include verification of current and past employment, education verification, criminal record, etc. If you have foreign education that needs to be verified, it will go through a separate vendor. Once you submit your background check you will be sent instructions from Sterling Talent Solutions to complete your Occupational Health screening visits.

Step Six

Onboarding

Within five days of accepting your offer, you’ll receive onboarding instructions and an email from your Talent Acquisition coordinator with steps for I‑9 verification and submitting your badge photo. I‑9s are completed in person in Silver Spring. Your coordinator will guide you through onboarding. Occupational health clearance—bloodwork, drug screen, physical, and required immunizations—is required before your start date.

Step Seven

Orientation

After the background check and Occupational Health requirements are completed and cleared, you will be scheduled to attend Children’s National Power of One (new hire orientation), which takes place on your first day of employment. You will be informed by a Talent Acquisition Coordinator if this will be virtual or in-person. Depending on your role, you may participate in additional training and orientations as well.
