October 29, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC—Kathleen Chavanu Gorman, MSN, RN, Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services for Children’s National Health System, has been named by Becker’s Hospital Review to its list of “130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.”

The annual list recognizes female leaders of hospitals and health systems across the country. The women featured have demonstrated the ability to lead their organizations in today’s challenging health care environment and have shown considerable skill and promise in their roles despite times of uncertainty and unprecedented change in the industry. The list is chosen among CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and other executives by the Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team.

“I congratulate Kathy on being named among this prestigious group,” said Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National. “She plays a pivotal role in keeping Children’s National running smoothly in the face of a changing landscape for pediatric medicine, and it is a testament to her skills and abilities that she has received this well-deserved recognition.”

Gorman is responsible for leading the core functions that keep a complex academic medical center operating seamlessly and ensuring an optimal patient-family experience. She rejoined Children’s National in 2012 from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where she served as Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, as well as Assistant Dean of Clinical Practice at the University School of Nursing. Prior to her tenure at CHOP, she was Vice President of Quality and Support Services at Children’s National. She also led Children’s National’s Quality Program, Clinical Resource Management Program, and Family Service Department, and played a critical role in helping Children’s National achieve Magnet® designation in 2010.
