Children's National Physician Honored at American Academy of Pediatrics Conference
Washington, DC—Children’s National Medical Center’s Joseph Wright, MD, MPH, was honored at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition in Boston recently. Dr. Wright received the 2011 Fellow Achievement Award for his work on the Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention. As part of the honor, he provided the keynote address, “The Role of the Emergency Department in Youth Violence Prevention,” during the council’s session.
Dr. Wright currently serves as Senior Vice President of the Child Health Advocacy Institute at Children’s National. He is trained as a pediatric emergency medicine physician and spent more than 20 years in the Emergency Department at Children’s National.
The Fellow Achievement Award recognizes an AAP Fellow who has made an exceptional contribution to the field of injury, violence, and poison prevention. During his introduction of Dr. Wright, Council Chair Garry Gardner, MD, said there was a unanimous feeling among the selection committee that Dr. Wright deserved the award. In his remarks, Dr. Gardner noted Dr. Wright’s efforts around injury prevention, bullying awareness, and advocacy on behalf of children.
During his keynote address, Dr. Wright described his work as a combination of passion, science, and patience when it comes to advocating for improved health outcomes for children.
