Nurse Practitioners: A Trusted Partner in Your Child’s Health

At CNPA, we know that nothing is more important than your child’s health and well-being. That’s why we’re proud to have highly skilled pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) or family nurse practitioners (FNPs) on our team. These dedicated professionals offer compassionate, comprehensive care for your child at every stage of growth.
What is a nurse practitioner?
A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who has completed advanced graduate education (usually a master's or doctorate degree) with specialized training in pediatric, family or adult medicine. In addition to their nursing experience, NPs undergo hundreds of hours of extensive clinical training focused specifically on the health needs of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
After completing their advanced education, NPs must pass a national certification exam to practice. They stay up-to-date through ongoing education to provide the best, most current care and maintain their licensure and certifications.
Washington, D.C., and Maryland allow NPs full practice authority, which allows them to diagnose, treat and prescribe independently without a collaborative agreement with a physician. However, NPs still work closely to coordinate with fellow pediatricians, specialists and other healthcare professionals to ensure your child’s care is complete, efficient and seamless.
Why should your child see a pediatric nurse practitioner?
- Personalized care: PNPs take the time to listen, answer questions and partner with parents to make healthcare decisions that are best for your child.
- Focus on prevention: From immunizations to developmental screenings, PNPs emphasize keeping kids healthy and catching concerns early.
- Family-centered approach: PNPs understand the unique needs of children and the important role parents and caregivers play.
- Expertise across ages: Whether it’s a well-child check, sports physical or management of asthma, ADHD or other chronic conditions, your PNP is here to help.
We invite you to schedule your child’s next appointment and meet our nurse practitioners. Whether it’s for a routine check-up, a follow-up visit, or to address any concerns you may have, we’re here to support your family every step of the way.
