Biography

Melissa B. Jones, MSN, APRN, CPNP-AC is a nurse practitioner and Director of the Neurocardiac Critical Care Program in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C. She is the current Vice President of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.

As the lead editor for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Handbook, she has successfully overseen an international collaboration of over 25 pediatric cardiac programs, with over 100 contributors. As a member of the education committee, she served as an editor of the PCICS Nursing Guidelines and is a lead editor in the development of the PCICS CICU Nurse Curriculum. Melissa co-chaired the 13th Annual International Meeting in Washington DC in 2017 and the 14th Annual International Meeting in Miami in December.

Melissa has served many leadership roles, has been an invited to speaker to international critical care conferences and has presented several poster abstracts at national meetings. Melissa has also been actively involved in the Northeast Pediatric Cardiology Nurses Association (NPCNA) since 2003.

Melissa’s clinical interest is in CICU specific modifiable risk factors to long term neurodevelopmental problems and ventricular assist devices. She leads the multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental care team in the CICU at Children’s National and serves as the VAD coordinator.
