Allison Shaw, NP, is a nurse practitioner in the Rare Disease Institute and associate director for Newborn Screening. She works with pediatricians, families and the departments of health of D.C. and the surrounding states to coordinate care of children with abnormal newborn metabolic screens.
At the Yale University of Nursing, she completed rotations in pediatric primary care, lactation counseling, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), school-based health clinics and in craniofacial surgery. Allison also volunteered as a refugee patient navigator, a mother-child support group leader and served as the pediatric representative in student government.
While studying at the University of Michigan, she studied and researched in the psychology department in the setting of public health and childhood psychology.
