Biography

Lillian M. Beard, M.D., is a Howard University alumna, and she has been a member of the Children’s National Hospital attending staff since completing her residency in 1973. She practiced in Northwest D.C. for 28 years before joining Drs. Shapiro and Perez in Silver Spring, Md.

She has held numerous leadership positions with medical associations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Medical Association and the American Medical Women’s Association. Dr. Beard is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is known for her dedication to children’s comprehensive medical care and for educating today’s parents through all forms of media.

Dr. Beard is an author and has been a health contributor for several media outlets in the Washington, D.C., area, including WUSA-TV, NBC 4 and WJLA. She wrote a column for Good Housekeeping, as well as the non-fiction book "Salt in Your Sock and Other Tried-and-True Home Remedies."
