Sahira Long, M.D., IBCLC, FAAP, FABM, is a board certified pediatrician and lactation consultant, and a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. She is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where she is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. She is Medical Director for Anacostia in medically under-served southeast Washington, D.C., and for the Children’s National East of the River Lactation Support Center.
Dr. Long has been involved in breastfeeding advocacy on the national, state and local level. She has served as president of the D.C. Breastfeeding Coalition and a member of the D.C. Lactation Commission since their inception in 2004 and 2016 respectively. She currently serves as Co-Chair for the United States Breastfeeding Committee’s CRASH Committee that oversees the organization’s diversity and inclusion efforts. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.
