Mariana Marques, M.D., joined the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship program in 2021. She did her medical school at the University of Brasilia and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
She moved to the United States to pursue a career in research in pediatric rheumatology. She did a second residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. Mariana has done clinical research in systemic lupus erythematosus, patient reported outcomes in juvenile myositis and discoid lupus erythematosus. Currently her focus is on autoinflammatory diseases, with particular interest in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
Dr. Marques has been co-leading an international multicenter study to validate the Autoinflammatory Diseases Activity Index (AIDAI) for periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, cervical adenitis (PFAPA). She has joined Michael Ombrello, M.D., in his lab within the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), where she is pursuing genomic research in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
