Did You Know?

Preventable injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for children under the age of 19 in the United States.

Children’s National Safety Center and Safe Kids District of Columbia are proud partners that provide dedicated and caring staff, operational support and other resources to assist in keeping your kids safe. The Safety Center and Safe Kids DC are both led by the division of Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care at Children’s National Hospital.

Safe Kids District of Columbia

Safe Kids DC, one of over 400 coalitions across the world that make up Safe Kids Worldwide, is committed to helping children and families prevent injury and injury-related death in children and youth through educational programs and outreach activities.

The Safety Center, located at United Medical Center, provides a combination of preventable injury education and accessible safety equipment to children and their families throughout the Washington, D.C., region, as well as all families that visit Children’s National Hospital.

Safe Kids Worldwide

Safe Kids Worldwide was founded in 1988 by Dr. Marty Eichelberger at Children’s National with support from founding sponsor Johnson & Johnson. Working with an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the United States and with partners in more than 30 countries, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 57 percent.
