Social Work Internship program

The members of our dedicated Social Work team believe strongly in the education of future social work professionals. Having benefited from a diverse range of student placement experiences during our own education, we recognize the commitment to social work students as the future of our profession.

Our Social Work Internship program offers second-year MSW students the opportunity to learn medical social work from highly skilled clinicians. During the internship, students will participate in all aspects of medical social work – following patients and their families from diagnosis through discharge and end of life care.

Program Information
Interns are assigned a field instructor who guides the intern through the world of pediatric medical social work.  Interns are valued members of the Social Work program within the Department of Family Services and complete their field work with invaluable skills and an understanding of the complexities of medical social work.

Interns are expected to participate actively in their own education, completing weekly supervision, attending monthly education sessions and presenting a case study at the end of the academic year.

There are no intern stipends offered at Children’s National. All interns are required to be cleared through a background investigation.  Interns must meet our Occupational Health requirements which include completion of our medical form by your private physician and up to date immunizations. Currently there is no cost to the intern.

Schedule
Social Work Internships are available for full academic year terms beginning in late August. Interns are expected to complete twenty to twenty four hours per week under the supervision of their field instructor.
