Choosing Children’s National for Pediatric Radiation Oncology Care

The Radiation Oncology Program brings pediatric medical and surgical oncology experts from Children’s National together with pediatric radiation oncology experts from Johns Hopkins to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer treatment and innovative clinical trials.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Nationally-ranked cancer care. Our Oncology Program is ranked #4 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
  • Specially trained care team. The program is led by fellowship-trained radiation oncologists whose practices and research focus solely on pediatric cancers. The clinical team also includes medical physicists and dosimetrists, pediatric oncology nurses, a dedicated pediatric nurse practitioner and a child life specialist, all with extensive experience and training to treat this unique patient population.   • Child-friendly environment. Environment plays a role in patient care. That’s why we’ve designed a child-friendly environment at Sibley Memorial Hospital, so that patients feel comfortable while receiving care and treatment. The radiation oncology clinic includes a playroom outfitted with furniture and toys for children of all ages.
  • Cutting-edge research. Through participation in the Children’s Oncology Group and various other research consortia, Children’s National provides access to cutting-edge research and the highest quality radiation treatments.

Innovative Pediatric Proton Therapy

The Johns Hopkins Proton Therapy Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., opened in October 2019 offering adult and pediatric patients precise cancer treatment, the benefits of expert research and access to nationally recognized specialists. Through our collaborative radiation oncology program, pediatric patients receive the most advanced proton therapy available in the region. The Center’s team of experts uses advanced technology supported by the latest research from Johns Hopkins Medicine and Children’s National Hospital to deliver individualized care.
