Hospitalist Program at Holy Cross Hospital

Hospitalist Program at Holy Cross Hospital
As the only dedicated children’s hospital in the Washington, DC, area, Children’s specialists often coordinate with regional providers to deliver pediatric care as well as educate current and future medical professionals.

Through a long-standing partnership with Holy Cross Hospital, pediatric hospitalists from Children’s National Medical Center provide direct patient care for many newborns delivered annually in the term nursery and for well over a thousand children admitted annually to the hospital’s inpatient unit.

Children’s hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians who specialize in the care of hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents. They assist in monitoring patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week should any concerns arise while a child is in the hospital.

Sharing Our Knowledge
Holy Cross is also a teaching hospital. Children’s hospitalists supervise pediatric residents and students at Holy Cross, and consult in the emergency department.

As the primary teachers for the residents and students, hospitalists discuss all patient cases during daily teaching rounds. Hospitalists assist trainees in evaluating and managing complex or severely ill patients and in performing a variety of procedures. Students also discuss observations gathered during rounds with the hospital’s primary care physicians, so residents learn from both the hospitalists and physicians.
