Transportation and Parking

Driving to and Parking at Children’s National’s Main Campus

Driving: If you are driving to Children’s National Medical Center’s main campus, you can find directions on our website, or you can use one of the popular mapping services on the Internet by typing in our main campus address: 111 Michigan Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20010. If you need to have directions mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to you, contact the Welcome Desk at 202-476-3000.

Where to Park: Parking for families and visitors is available at the Sheikh Zayed Campus for Advanced Children’s Medicine, located at 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, DC  20010. Look for brightly colored signs that direct you into the garage and take a ticket at the entrance gate. Metered parking is also available on First Street NW, with a four hour time limit. Please note signs that list the days and times of street cleaning.

Discount Parking Stickers: Parents or guardians who park in the garage can purchase a discounted parking voucher for $5 at the Cashier’s Office in the Main Atrium, 10 am – 1 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm, Monday - Friday, or in the Parking Office, located near the Emergency Department, 1st Floor, East Inpatient Tower, 7 am - 6 pm, Monday – Friday. A discounted parking voucher is recommended if you plan to park for 3 – 24 hours.

Valet Parking: Valet parking is available in the garage Monday-Friday, from 7 am – 5 pm.  There is no additional charge for this service.  (Regular parking rates apply).

Valet Parking Pick-Up: Between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday – Friday, you can pick up your car from the valet station, located on the P-1 Main level of the parking garage. After 5 pm, take your valet claim ticket to the Parking Garage Attendant, located on parking level P-1 Main (near the garage exit) to retrieve your keys. After 12:00 am, you may pick up your keys from the Security Office, located near the Emergency Department on the 1st Floor, East Inpatient Tower.

Special Needs Travelers: Parking for people with special needs is available on the P-1 parking level. When you first enter the garage, after you pass through the entrance gate, turn left and look for these parking spaces. There are elevators from the P-1 level up to the main hospital entrance. Please use the tan house phone located on the P-1 level if you need a wheelchair or help with moving yourself, a patient, or visitor into the hospital.

Public Transportation

Metrorail: The nearest Metro stop is Brookland/CUA (Catholic University) on the Red Line.

Children’s Metro Shuttle Service (Free): Shuttle and Metro bus schedules are available at the Welcome Desk. Children’s Metro Shuttle:

  • Runs regularly between the hospital and the Brookland/CUA Metro station
  • Operates Monday-Friday
  • Does not operate on weekends or holidays
  • Picks up and drops off passengers at the visitor/patient drop-off area on the P-1 level of the parking garage

Metrobus: The H-1, H-2, and H-4 buses stop in front of the hospital on Michigan Avenue, NW.

Taxi Services: If you need a taxi, please visit the Welcome Desk in the Main Atrium, which has a phone with a direct line to area taxi companies. You must remain in the Main Atrium once a taxi company has been called to receive your taxi confirmation number. When your taxi arrives, you will be asked by the Welcome Desk staff to meet your ride at the P-1 level.

Amtrak and MARC Trains: Several train lines serve Washington, DC. They arrive and depart at Union Station, which is also a Metrorail stop. From Union Station, you can take the Metrorail to Brookland/CUA Metro, where you will find our free shuttle or a bus to the hospital. From Union Station, you also can take a taxi for a ride that will be about 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Airports: Washington, DC is served by three major airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), and Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Ground Transportation from Local Airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is served by the Metrorail system, shuttles to downtown Washington, DC, and taxis. Both Baltimore-Washington and Dulles International airports have ground transportation services, taxis, as well as shuttles to downtown Washington, DC.

Ronald McDonald House: Please contact your unit social worker regarding accommodations at the Ronald McDonald House. Transportation is provided to and from the hospital on a fixed schedule. See your Ronald McDonald House representative before leaving for the hospital.
