Research Interests
Phillip Pearl, MD, is associate professor of Pediatrics and Neurology and director of Medical Student Education (Neurology) at the George Washington University School of Medicine, and chief of General Child Neurology, as well as program director in Neurology at Children’s National Medical Center. Dr. Pearl is a scholar in the Master Teacher Program in Medical Education and received a certificate in Leadership Development from the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the George Washington University. Dr. Pearl, a Baltimore native, attended the Johns Hopkins University, Peabody Conservatory of Music, and University of Maryland School of Medicine. He took his residencies in pediatrics and pediatric neurology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Pearl’s research interests are pediatric neurotransmitter disorders and epilepsy, and he serves as an investigator in protocols at Children’s National Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health associated with epilepsy and neurometabolic disease, specifically SSADH deficiency. Dr. Pearl has published more than 65 manuscripts and 40 chapters in the area of child neurology.
