Pedro A. Jose, MD, PhD is the director of the Center for Molecular Physiology Research, Children's National Medical Center and Professor of Pediatrics, George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Adjunct Professor of Physiology and Biophysics, Georgetown University School of Medicine, Clinical Professor of Cell and Development Biology and Anatomy, University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Visiting Professor, Third Military Medical University of the People's Republic of China, Chongqing, P.R. China. Dr. Jose has received many academic awards, including the 2003 Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Lecture (Council for High Blood Pressure Research, American Heart Association), 2007 Ernest H. Starling Distinguished Lecture (American Physiological Society Water and Electrolyte Homeostasis Section), and a 2007 MERIT award from the National Institutes of Health. Since 1970, Dr. Jose has received more than $35 million in grant support: two of his NIH current grants were funded for more than 25 years. Dr. Jose's work on deciphering the role of variations of the GRK4 gene in the causation of human essential hypertension was the second advance and discovery cited by the Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for its FY 2004 Budget Justification to the US Congress.
