Research Interests

Yetrib Hathout, PhD, is an assistant professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Children’s National Medical Center and the George Washington University. He is also the director of the Proteomics Core facility at the Research Center for Genetic Medicine at Children’s Research Institute. Dr. Hathout obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Cellular Biology at the University of Burgundy in Dijon (France) in 1991. After two years (1992-1994) of work as an assistant research scientist in “Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Biologie Appliquée à la nutrition et à l' Alimentation” (Dijon, France), Dr. Hathout joined the laboratory of Biochemical Mass Spectrometry at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he studied xenobitics and protein interactions using mass spectrometry (1994-1998). He then moved in 1998 to the University of Maryland and continued to work on proteomics applications to study mechanisms of drug resistance in breast cancer cells. An analytical chemist by training, Dr. Hathout has worked throughout his career to use mass spectrometry in the fields of biochemistry and cellular biology. Most recently (November 2003) Dr. Hathout moved to the Center for Genetic Medicine of the Children’s National Medical Center where he continues to implement cutting edge proteomic approaches to study mechanisms of human pathologies including brain tumor, neurodegenerative diseases, and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Hathout is currently involved in the development of a proteome profiling platform and biomarkers discovery in the Center. He has published more than 30 articles and 40 abstracts related to the field of mass spectrometry and proteomic applications.
